Marine Pumping Solutions

Marine and coastal work puts pumps in the least forgiving environment they will encounter. The duties themselves are familiar — dewatering, transfer, flood control — but the setting adds salt, tidal cycling and limited access, and equipment that performs adequately inland can degrade quickly at the waterline.

What marine pumping demands

Cofferdam and dock dewatering

Emptying a cofferdam or dry dock is a large, time-bound volume against low head, often against continuing ingress. High-flow models earn their place here: the B500 at 3,350 m³/hr and B400 at 2,218 m³/hr clear standing water at rates that keep the works on programme.

Tidal and intermittent operation

Coastal pumping follows the tide rather than a schedule, so suction conditions change through the cycle and the pump may lose prime repeatedly. Automatic self-priming to 8.5 m allows the unit to recover without intervention, which matters where access is restricted at high water.

Reclamation and shoreline works

Land reclamation, revetment and shoreline protection involve moving water carrying sand and marine sediment. Solids handling to 124 mm on the B400 tolerates the granular material this work generates.

Restricted access

Quaysides, pontoons and vessels constrain both footprint and service access. Skid-mounted and sound-attenuated enclosure options suit permanent or semi-permanent installation where space is fixed and noise is regulated.

Which series suits marine work

Selections below are based on the published specifications for each range.

B Series

The high-volume duties that dominate marine work — cofferdam and dock dewatering, reclamation, shoreline water control — where solids tolerance and flow rate matter more than pressure.

Specifications

K Series

Clean-water transfer at pressure for shore-based supply and distribution, with heads to 145 m. Not for water carrying sediment.

Specifications

Before you specify

  1. 1

Discuss material specification with us before ordering for salt-water service. Saline exposure affects material selection, and the right specification depends on duty, duration and whether the installation is permanent or temporary.

  2. 2

Where a unit will be permanently installed at the waterline rather than deployed temporarily, the chassis and enclosure choice matters as much as the hydraulic selection.

  3. 3

Tidal duties should be sized on the worst-case suction lift in the cycle, not the average — 8.5 m of self-priming lift is the limit across all models.

Marine pumping questions

How quickly can a cofferdam or dry dock be dewatered?

That is set by the volume and the pump's flow rate against the head involved. The B500 at 3,350 m³/hr and B400 at 2,218 m³/hr are the high-volume options, and dock dewatering is typically a low-head duty, so delivered flow stays near the rated figure.

Are these pumps suitable for salt water?

Saline exposure affects material selection, and the right specification depends on the duty, its duration and whether the installation is permanent or temporary. Discuss material specification with us before ordering for salt-water service.

What happens when the tide changes the suction conditions?

Suction lift varies through the tidal cycle and the pump may lose prime. All models self-prime automatically to 8.5 m, so the unit recovers without intervention. Size on the worst-case lift in the cycle rather than the average.
